Ms. Dougherty holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminology and Justice Studies from The College of New Jersey, where she developed a strong foundation in understanding the complexities of the legal system and the impact it has on individuals and communities. This passion led her to pursue a Juris Doctor from Rutgers-Camden School of Law, where she distinguished herself as an editor for the Rutgers Journal of Law and Public Policy. Ms. Dougherty received the Albert P. Blaustein Memorial Award for her legal writing, cementing her has a modern literary scholar and advocate.
Since being admitted to the New Jersey State Bar in 2012, Ms. Dougherty has spent the past seven years specializing in personal injury law. Her experience includes representing clients in a wide range of cases, from automobile accidents to workplace injuries. Additionally, Ms. Dougherty has been selected by the New Jersey Supreme Court to serve as District 1 Fee Arbitration Secretary because of her continued legal excellence and high ethical standards. Here, she carries herself with grace, intellect and empathy in helping review client/attorney disputes.
She is known for her compassionate approach, taking the time to listen to her clients and tailoring her strategies to fit their unique situations. Michael J. Gaffney, Esquire recently opened his own practice on July 1, 2024, the Law Offices of Michael Gaffney, with his former partner, Melville D. Lide, Esquire and Kelly A. Dougherty, Esquire. Prior to that, he was the Senior Trial Attorney at Radano & Lide for 28 years, 18 of which as a partner of the law firm. He has been admitted to practice in New Jersey and Pennsylvania and has been certified and re-certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as Civil Trial Attorney. Last year, Mr. Gaffney was named the 2022-2023 Professional Lawyer of the Year for Cumberland County by the New Jersey Commission on Professionalism in the Law. He specializes in civil litigation with emphasis on personal injury and insurance defense.
Mr. Gaffney is a longstanding member of the New Jersey Association for Justice (NJAJ), New Jersey State Bar Association and Cumberland County Bar Association, and served as the Chairperson of the Cumberland County Civil Practice Committee (2008-2012), of which he is still a member. He is presently the Chair of the Arbitration Selection Committee, where he has served for over 10 years.
Mr. Gaffney has been a South Jersey resident his entire life. He attended Seton Hall University, where he graduated cum laude, in 1993. After graduation, he attended Villanova University School of Law, where he obtained a Juris Doctorate in 1996, and received the Villanova Law Alumni Association Award.
Mr. Gaffney has been a regular speaker at Seminars for Continuing Legal Education for Attorneys, including the Arbitration Training and Re-Training Courses. He also was an adjunct Professor at Cumberland County College and a guest Lecturer at Seton Hall University. Further, he regularly serves as a guest Judge for the Vincent J. Apruzzese Mock Trial Competition.
